About Me

Creating Better Skin Every Day

After spending the last twenty years struggling with my skin, I decided that it was time to make some powerful changes. For starters, I went in and met with a dermatologist, who was very upfront with me about the nature of my skin. It was really interesting to talk with him about my treatment options, and before I knew it, I was getting treatments to help the problem. Within a few months, my skin looked brand new, and I knew it was all because of the help of my doctor. I wanted to spread the word about the power of dermatology, so check out my blog!

What To Know About Skin Cancer

by Louis Harris

Skin cancer is one the most common forms of cancer that's out there. Caused by sun exposure, skin cancer is something that a lot of people face at one point during their lifetime. But what are some signs of skin cancer for you to look out for, and how can it be treated? This article will take a closer look. Are you interested in learning a little bit more? If so, then this article is just the thing for you.

How to Spot Skin Cancer

Dermatologists recommend that people do regular skin cancer checks at home. To do a skin cancer check at home, try to do it when you are in the shower because you will be able to inspect your entire body. Then, use a combination of both touch and sight to look for skin cancer. For instance, start out by looking at your skin. Do you notice any abnormal freckles or moles? Do you notice that any of your moles have changed shape, color, or size?

If so, then you should have them checked out by a dermatologist. In addition to just looking for abnormalities, however, you should also rub your hands across your skin. Do you feel any changes? Do you notice that you have bumps on your skin or that any of your moles stand up a lot? These are other things to be mindful of and keep your eye on.

How to Treat Skin Cancer

If you go into your dermatologist and they diagnose you with skin cancer, then you may be wondering how one earth they will treat it. depending on how severe your skin cancer is, your dermatology may recommend skin cancer surgery like MOHS surgery or they may just be able to quickly remove it with cryotherapy.

MOHS Surgery: As the most effective form of skin cancer surgery out there, MOHS surgery involves remove layer by layer of cancer skin. Once each layer has been removed, your dermatologist will examine it under a microscope for cancerous cells. This process is repeated until they no longer can detect any cancerous cells.

Cryotherapy: If your skin cancer is very small, then your dermatologist may remove it with a procedure called cryotherapy. Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the cancerous cells which causes them to fall off and die.

During your initial consultation with your dermatologist, they will be able to determine which treatment will give you the best results possible.
